Playwright Overview

I fell into playwriting with Blues for Railton at the Albany Empire; they originally asked me to write songs for the show but I ended up co-writing the script as well. I was then commissioned to write Glory! for Temba Theatre, which won the 1988 LWT Plays on Stage award. For Nitro I wrote Passports to the Promised Land (I also wrote the music & lyrics), as well as the scripts for Slamdunk and The Wedding Dance. Since leaving Nitro and feeling that I have often spread myself too thinly, I have focussed on composing and directing.

However, I am currently co-writing, with the Australian playwright Donna Abela, a new play called Hearing for the Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP). Hearing is based on the transcripts from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, which presented its final report in November 2017.
